With funding from the National Institute on Aging (NIA), CHeSS is establishing a biomedical research core center in the study of aging, with a focus on how social context, including personal socioeconomic and health factors, family, and neighborhood/community factors, interact with the health care system to produce health outcomes among older persons.
This center will work with faculty across campus to promote research on aging, social context, and health care. With extensive participation by academic units across the biological and social sciences and related professional schools, and with close collaboration with the University’s NIA-funded Center on Aging (CoA), CHeSS offers many opportunities for collaboration on interdisciplinary research.
A key initiative of this center is the recruitment of two new assistant professors, who will receive initial salary support and resources for professional development. Recruitment for these positions will begin during the fall of 2009. These positions will be expected to start no later than July 1, 2010; an earlier start date is possible and preferred.
