CHeSS welcomes Dr. Kathy NeckErman as Executive Director

March 2, 2009

The Center welcomes its new Executive Director, Kathryn Neckerman.  Kathy is returning to The University of Chicago, where she earned her Ph.D. in sociology, after 17 years at Columbia University. At Columbia she began on the faculty of the Department of Sociology and then became Associate Director of the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy (ISERP), an interdisciplinary social science research center. While at ISERP, she worked with the Columbia site of the RWJF-funded Health & Society Scholars program, and co-organized Built Environment and Health, a research program now supported by NIEHS, NSF, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She is the author of Schools Betrayed (Chicago, 2007) and editor of Social Inequality (Russell Sage, 2004), as well as a number of research papers on topics related to urban inequality, health disparities, and the built environment.

Kathy joins a CHeSS staff dedicated to providing high-quality services in grant proposal development, post-award grant management, and support for research and training in health and the social sciences at the University of Chicago.
